"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."
Han Solo, "Star Wars: A New Hope "

    Greetings Legends!

Carbine weapons are assault rifles with a medium range and are capable of rapid fire for heavy combat. More powerful than pistols and capable of a faster fire rate than rifles, these weapons can be incredibly effective in the right hands. Bounty hunters, medics and spies can lay down suppressing fire, provide cover fire, and launch attacks by themselves or for their group mates. Combined with carbine expertise abilities these weapons become even more effective.
Let these technical specs be your guide to find out if carbine weapons are a good choice for your character.

    Carbine Basics

Be sure to take a moment and examine the weapons you're interested in using. You can find out all the details about a weapon by clicking on it in your inventory and "examining" it with the radial menu, or by looking at the details of the item on the bazaar.

Once you have looked over the weapon details, it helps if you take a moment to compare it with the expertise abilities your character has, and the abilities you're considering purchasing in the future through the Profession Expertise System. Things you will want to consider are the amount of damage, damage type, special weapon effects and related expertise abilities.

    ___________________________

Here are some additional tips on understanding weapon details in the examine window:

    Explained

Skill Mods: Here you can find out any additional skill modifiers the weapon may have.

Attribute Mods: These are augmentations/enhancers which are inserted into your weapon by a weaponsmith. Good quality ones are commonly looted from Death Watch Bunker and Heroic Instances.

Combat Level Required: This item displays the level that your character must be to use the weapon.

Required Profession: If there are any profession restrictions, they will be listed here. Species restrictions, if any, are listed here as well.

Damage:In this category, you can find all the details about the weapon's damage capabilities, including the damage type, category, base DPS, elemental damage, etc.

Other Stats: Here you can find the weapon's range, special effects and other information.

    Weapon Categories

Carbines can be found throughout the galaxy in different ways. There are four basic categories: crafted weapons, looted weapons, quest rewards and Galactic Civil War weapons.

Crafted Weapons: Crafted weapons are hand made or manufactured by munitions experts. You can purchase them throughout the galaxy by visiting the bazaar. Some are for sale on the open market, but to find the really excellent hardware click the tab that says "vendor search." You can search vendors throughout the galaxy and find shops with a wide range of available goods, as long as you are willing to travel to buy them. Each type of crafted weapon varies based on the quality of the item and any modifiers that might be built into the weapon by the crafter. Also, they currently have one socket for item upgrades created through the reverse engineering system.

Looted Weapons: There are two types of looted weapons. Basic looted weapons have been recovered from your enemies after combat and can be found throughout the galaxy. Special looted weapons are recovered from specific enemies. These are mostly found on Kashyyyk and Mustafar.

Quest Weapons: Quest weapons are rewarded for completing a specific quest.

Galactic Civil War Weapons: Galactic Civil War weapons can be purchased from faction recruiters based on points you have scored in the war. If you've scored enough points, you can visit a faction recruiter and there will be a new dialogue box available so you can purchase these new
    weapons.

How many Carbine users do we have within our galaxy? Let us know within the thread if you commonly use a Carbine.

May the force be with you.

the well is starting to run real dry, eh?

as with any weapon, don't get caught up in DPS and look for the best max damage.

Okay i am curious now. I was always told that dps was the stat to look at, not the max damage, so say i have a 1100 dps carbine with 700 max damage for instance, but i also have a 1000 dps with 800 max damage, does that mean that the one with higher max damage is better, despite the lower dps?

Max damage well be reflected in your specials and default attacks. DPS is a silly thing because there can be so many variables in combat, especially PvP, but you know you will always be hitting for the highest amount of damage with your specials if your weapon has a high max damage.

The same can be said for minimum damage, but in a different way - you will always be putting up consistent damage, but not spike damage. The GLC for bh is a prime example of this, as its min damage is higher than a lot of crafted rifles.

Some more details expanding on the GLC reference.
The GLC is the king of consistent damage for rifles for two reasons, the first being the PreGU5 style rifle damage range with the minimum damage being half of the max damage value. It has a much higher minimum damage than any current properly crafted rifle should have, due to the bias towards high max, lower min damage ranges in the GU5 weaponcrafting system. The second reason is the huge amount of elemental damage it has per shot, and that value is doubled in damage calculations. It has more than twice the elemental of crafted rifles.

Actually my Carbine use is rather specialized, I have a Proton, and Blackscale carbines made.
Looking to make a Corestrike/Nym's carbine soon,
all primarily use Commando Focused Fire combat with extended range Expertise.
