    Hello Legends!

For this week's Friday Feature, we will be delving into the world of Resources!

Resources are a very large and very vital part of this galaxy we live in. Our achievements as crafters here can be very dependant on the quality/quantity of resources we use. Our homes, our furniture, the clothing we wear, the armor/weapons that keep us safe, the ships we fly, and even the tools we use to create with require resources!

Many of our crafting projects require just the right crafting materials. Along with the many resources we have on the ground to choose from, we will also explore space resources and the means of acquiring these resources!

    Your Survey Tools

We need to know what's out there! How do we know what's out there? ALL PROFESSIONS CAN SURVEY AND SAMPLE RESOURCES. Traders specifically though are built to do such jobs at a quicker and more efficient rate than non-traders.

Listed below are currently the available tools used for surveying:

    -Mineral Survey Device
    -Chemical Survey Device
    -Gas Pocket Survey Device
    -Flora Survey Tool
    -Geothermal Energy Survey Device
    -Water Survey Device
    -Ambient Solar Energy Surveying Tool
    -Wind Current Surveying Tool
    -Interplanetary Survey Droids (ISD)

    Using Your Surveying Device

To use your survey device, simply activate it either in your inventory or drag and drop the device on your toolbar and activate it from there!
When you first open your survey device, you will see a small map and a list on the side that will show the current available resources available to survey with your device. Find something on the list and give it a click to begin a survey!

You will be prompted that you have begun a survey and after a brief wait, the map will display numbers of a certain %, these % numbers are the concentration that the area is rich in that particular resource. If surveying does not find anything, simply start moving around to different areas and beginning your survey process again. Sometimes multiple resources can share an equally rich % concentration in a given area. Each resource though will have to be surveyed for to determine a desired % area. The higher the % of the concentration, the more resources you will pull from it! **Note** The list of resources are different on every planet.

    What's a good %?

Well to answer this question vaguely, a good % is the best you can find! It depends how long you are willing to search for one! Most %s on resource concentrations theoretically can go as high as 100%, but that is not to say there aren't any exceptions. Some resources unfortunately top off very low (between 55% and 75%) and on occasion even lower/higher. These resources particularly include Water and most Low Grade Ore. Outside of these resources, it is ideal to strive for concentrations 80% or better. It is worth noting that ALL Jump To Lightspeed (JTL) resources can spawn in concentrations as high as 100% and those resources include the following:

    -Fermionic Siliclastic Ore
    -Perovskitic Aluminum
    -Conductive Borcarbitic Copper
    -Crystalized Bicorbintium Steel
    -Hardened Arveshium Steel
    -Unstable Organometallic Gas
    -High Grade Polymetric Radioactive
    -Gravitonic Fiberplast

*Note* Each of the JTL resources are only in spawn on one particular planet at a time. When they expire, they can move to a new planet, they can also respawn on the same planet.

    Using Your Interplanetary Survey Droids

A convenient way of knowing what is available across the galaxy is using Interplanetary Survey Droids (ISDs). Using an interplanetary droid will prompt you to choose a planet and then a survey tool if you wish to survey a particular resource on a planet. These consumable droids will explore the planet of your choosing and report back via ingame mail with a list of that planet's available resources *Note* The reports do not include resource stats or any concentration %s.

    Gathering Your Resources

Once you have found your desired resource concentration, what's next? Well.. The fun part obviously! It's time to gather your resources! Through hand sampling and/or harvesters, we can begin the extraction process.

Hand Sampling enables your character to kneel in position and begin using Action to slowly pull up your resources by hand. All characters can survey and hand sample, but with the right expertise selected, the trader is able to pull up resources at larger rate. If you plan on going out to do lots of hand sampling, it is advised you visit an entertainer and ask for a Hand Sample buff! Hand Sampling is permitted anywhere. *Note* Don't forget to visit your local Droid Engineer for a Hand Sampling Droid to increase your sampling power!

Harvesters are a very useful means of gathering extra resources and can continue to run while you are offline at the expense of your housing lots and a little maintenance. There is a harvester for every resource with exception of creature resources and asteroid resources.
Harvesters for Minerals, Chemicals, Gas, Flora, and Water each offer a Personal (1 lot), Medium (1 lot), and Elite (3 lot) size harvesters that differ on BER (Base Extraction Rate). The higher the BER, the faster the resources fill up. As mentioned already, harvesters require constant maintenance. Maintenance entails credits to keep your harvester from being destroyed and power so that way it is able to continue to run while it's turned on. Wind Energy, Geothermal Energy, Solar Energy, and Radioactive can be used as fuel for your harvesters.

Harvesters that are only able to harvest energy only require credits as a form of maintenance. Harvesters now include all of your characters on your account to the admin list.
*Note* Harvesters of any kind are not permitted on Mustafar or Kashyyyk.

    Creature Resources

In the wilds of every planet there are creatures to hunt, creature lairs to plunder (/searchlair command), and even animals that we can milk (using your /milk command). Hides, Bones, Meat, Milk, and Eggs are just some of the resources we can find off of the many creatures in our galaxy.
When you are hunting creatures, you can radial an animal corpse and select what resource of the creature you would like to harvest. There are many different kinds of hides and meats that drop from many animals. Some drop more than others and some may not drop a particular resource.
**Note** ISDs are unable to report back on Creature Resources. Don't forget to also visit your local Droid Engineers for Creature Harvesting Droids that you can set resource priorities on to easily salvage a given resource type. Chefs can make a food called Veghash that increases harvesting.

    Space Asteroids

As on land, there are also resources (Asteroids) in space that you can mine (marked in your datapad under the POI tab) with the proper equipment!

The Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC) offer a series of piloting quests on Kashyyyk (Starting at /way -453 158 -19 1st level of the tree) that eventually lead to your own Mining Lasers, Tractor Beams, and Cargo Hold. **Note** Shipwrights can use these Asteroid resources to make superior mining equipment to those rewarded from the CEC quest line. It's advised that you are well equipped for your space mining as some of the bandits in higher tier locations can potentially be troublesome.

    Using Your Space Mining Equipment

Follow the asteroid chunk (You can target the chunk and use /follow to automatically track with it) and repeatedly hit it with your mining lasers. It will move steadily away from the main asteroid, so you should pursue and destroy it as soon as possible to minimize your travel time.
Destroying the large asteroid chunk will spawn several smaller chunks that will quickly move away from your ship. You have two choices at this point: destroy the small chunks, or use your tractor beam to pull the chunks to your ship.
Either choice will place asteroid resources into your cargo hold, but using your tractor beam will grant a far greater number.

To use your tractor beam, make sure to bind a key to "Fire tractor beam" in your keymap. Fire the beam at a small chunk and watch as the chunk is pulled towards your ship. It will be placed in your cargo hold as soon as it touches your ship.
Another way is to open the options menu and bind a key command to the 'Toggle Tractor Beam' command. This allows you to permanently toggle on or off your tractor beam, which allows for much easier collection of small chunks. '
Combined with the /follow command, a toggled on tractor beam can make mining go a LOT faster and cut down on travel times.
**Note** Claiming your resources is as easy as radialing your ship in your datapad and retrieving your resources.

Resources are an always evolving aspect to our galaxy. They are a commodity that always has some kind of value, whether it be for crafting or for trading. They are a large part of our economy and something everyone has the ability to break into no matter what level you are. There are many more questions you may have on any of these topics or even some that may not have been covered. Please ask questions! Use every tool to your advantage! Here on the forums, on wiki, and even our amazing crafters and resource channels on Legends discord where you can find many other pinned messages full of useful information to give you the insight you need to master your resources!

Here are a couple of extremely useful resource tools that can help show you what is or has ever been in spawn to help keep you current and even help you break down the numbers and know exactly how useful your resources are for crafting:

A lot of the fighting in space towards the beginning you have to fight Tier 3 enemies. How is your piloting?

I pilot well enough to get by. My concern was only being CL33 on the ground. Did not know if there was any ground combat involved. Thank you for responding.

Do we have a fixed generation cycle of resources, or are they random spawns? Been looking for some Titanium Aluminum for a bit, but n
ever seem to find it as a spawning resource. Old docs online suggested that, if spawns are random, it may only pop up once or twice in a period of years?

*EDIT* ... guess what I found spawning when I logged in today? LOL.
